ON our way to Thirunallar temple, we came across a board giving directions for a Raghu-kethu sthalam and our interest perked up. Just a few days before, my mom was telling me about a temple, in which both rahu & Kethu have a single physical entity and I wondered whether this could be the same. Guess what it turned out to be the same temple.
The temple located on the Kumbakonam-Karaikal highway, is approximately 3 kms from the main road.The name itself suggests, why the temple is named so- paambu means snake and it is said that a snake is seen around the god and/or the goddess regularly. It is also believed that people in this village. Do not die of snake bites despite a lot of them milling around the area.The temple is 59 th Thevara Stalah of Chola Kingdom.The temple also known as Seshapuri has Lord Shiva as the presiding deity. The lord is rightly called as Paamburanathar or Seshapureeshwarar. His Consort is Vandaar Poonguzhalimmai.
The legend goes that Adisheshan & other sepents had worshipped in this temple to get rid od a curse by Lord Shiva and since then snakes frequent this temple
